Pop the Cork!!! Plus, Inspiration for Creativity (yes, even for you!)

April 21, 2011
Do you really need more reasons to love wine? Aside from the amazing, better-known benefits of drinking it, such as lowering your risk of heart disease, feeding your body with antioxidants, and helping us wind down from the crazy work week, vino just got even better…now you can get creative with it, too – just save your corks and use them for super simple home decor projects! The natural, vintage look of cork adds the perfect touch that will cozy up any space. Just uncork a bottle and let your right-brain thinking flow. Besides, what’s better than a happy wine buzz from a nice glass of red on a Wednesday Friday night?

First, get some inspiration from this insane window display from Anthropologie (below)…

This is some serious creativity that shows what can be done with wine corks. Next, uncork a bottle and get to work on one of these much easier, much smaller DIY ideas below to add some flair to your own home, and have a peek at these great gift ideas that are easy on the wallet and sure to impress.

For the simplest way to build a centerpiece or create interest on a counter top, simply grab any glass vase or candle holder. Fill it about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way with corks, add a candle, and voila! Instant decor piece.

Have a couple of jars with lids? Throw some corks in there and add them to a dining room table:

Also, as a side note: when it comes to creativity, don’t beat yourself up if you can’t get those juices flowing, whether you’re redecorating a room, writing a novel or revamping your resume. Most people will say or think that they are not creative, that they are “lacking that gene,” or whatever. The truth is that we all have a creative and imaginative nature – where we get messed up is when we put pressure on ourselves or tell ourselves things such as “It’s not original” and “It’s been done before,” or when we pressure ourselves to come up with entirely new ideas. Stop expecting so much, and lighten up on yourself. Some of the greatest creations and ideas are built off of inspiration from the ideas of others.

“The guy who invented the wheel was an idiot. The guy who invented the other three, he was a genius.” – Sid Caesar

Now, crack a bottle and get moving!

What fun things have you created with your corks? More ideas, please!😉
